The white version doesn't have the new drivers for like 5 of our windows machines. We tried it on three XP boxes and two Windows 7 boxes and it would not install correctly. So, we took it back and bought the brushed chrome (Apparently newer) version and it has all the correct drivers for all of our computers.
The sound quality is very very good. We are very pleased with how crisp voice recordings sound.
PS Why don't they have a blue version? :)

I work from home where I record video and audio. While this is a very high quality mic, it's not ideal if you don't have a professional sound studio built. Why? Because it picks up EVERYTHING! Nothing can be going on anywhere near my home office, and any typing or clicking can be heard super loud. (And I do have it on the right setting for recording just voice, not the entire room.)
Also, I see videos of people using this mic sitting against the edge of their desk - I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but using this with my mac, the microphone must be DIRECTLY in front of my face (aka where the keyboard goes) to pick up my voice well, and it doesn't go tall enough so I have to hunch over in order to talk into it. (I'm not tall, 5'6".)
Also, I have to turn up the volume to maximum in my sound settings in order to get this mic to pick me up at all.
So, I have mixed feelings. While the sound quality was great, recording audio was much easier when I used a headset because it didn't require utter silence from my surroundings.

easy to go, just plug and use. the sound quality is good and the ability to lower the take in volume is great. i would recommend this mic to anyone who wants a cheap priced good quality usb mic. It also looks pretty cool and comes with its own little desktop stand.

I think the Blue Snowball USB Microphone is a wonderful tool for doing quick recordings. I do some work as a musician and I have a home studio, so my expectations of the Snowball were not that high. After all, how could such a low priced mic compare with my more expensive mics?
Although the Snowball does not have the clarity of more sensitive studio mics, I am very satisfied with it. It does a remarkably good job for quick recordings of musical ideas, even multi-track ideas. Voice records well and I look forward to using it to help produce several online elements of classes that I teach in my real job.
It is simple to use with Audacity, a free, open-source recording software. With a free plug-in for Audacity, I am able to make a quick recording with very reasonable quality, save it as an mp3, and either e-mail it to someone or post it on my website. The first time I tried to save my recording as an mp3, Audacity directed me to the site where I could download the plug-in. I've had no problems ever since.
Besides working very well, it's really kind of cute.

I already had a Samson microphone that I was amazed by but needed a microphone I could take around, put in my backpack and record various meetings. I bought the Gloss Black Snowball and love the design (it's always a topic of conversation when I set it up for recordings) and the fact that I can easily pack it up and take it where I need it. I know I shouldn't compare this microphone with my Samson, but...the sound quality isn't what I was hoping for when I produced my first screencast using the Snowball to record the audio. Again, I believe it is a quality microphone for a decent price, but if you are wanting almost crystal clear recordings, you may have to spend a little more money.
